ICC launches seminar on model turnkey contracts in construction
Paris, 24 September 2008

"The turnkey contract is designed to provide a balanced yet flexible contract for parties to promote the proper functioning of the international construction industry."

On the one-year anniversary of the creation of the model turnkey contract, ICC is holding its first half-day seminar at the Paris Secretariat on how the contract can help smooth transactions in the construction industry.

The seminar on the contract, which is used to facilitate billions of dollars in international commercial transactions each year, is aimed at engineers, contractors, government officials, financial institutions, arbitrators and legal advisors.

"The turnkey contract is designed to provide a balanced yet flexible contract for parties to promote the proper functioning of the international construction industry,"  said Fabio Bortolotti, Chair of the ICC Commission on Commercial Law and Practice and one of the contract's authors.

Participants in the seminar will exchange views on the model contract on related topics, such as delays in completion, obligations of the parties, payment provisions and intellectual property and will benefit from the experience of a highly experienced panel.

Speakers include renowned legal experts in the drafting of turnkey contracts, including Mr Bortolotti. Representing the view of industry will be Jose Ignacio Gutierrez Diaz, Senior Counsel of Siemens AG, and Bengt Kristrom, Legal Advisor of the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, among other esteemed lawyers.

The event is eligible for credit in New York, California, England and Wales, and is pending approval in France.
