ICC London Roundtable on Corporate Governance:"Effective Corporate Governance: What is the role of regulation?"
Tuesday 18 October 2005
On 18 and 19 October 2005, ICC held a colloquium in London on financial services and insurance issues. For all companies, this was a unique opportunity to meet with high-level government officials and experts on issues that are of most importance to their core activities.
ICC engaged the international financial/investment community, companies, and top-level government representatives in a dialogue about the appropriate role of regulation in achieving effective corporate governance. Notably panelists addressed this question through interactive panel discussions among business leaders centred on two key questions:
1) What is the appropriate balance between regulation and market driven solutions to governance issues?
2) How do companies deal with the multiplicity of governance rules when they operate on a global basis?
ICC's Commission on Financial Services and Insurance met, the day after, to decide on key issues including Model schedules for liberalization of financial services, financial and business reporting, Basel II and outsourcing, the European Reinsurance Directive, Large scale risks, and Terrorism and Insurance.
