Companies and their legal counsel wanting to retain control over business-to-business disputes have just two weeks to register for ICC’s 5th International Mediation Conference, set to take place in Paris on 18 September.

Specifically tailored to the interests and needs of in-house counsel and management representatives, this unique one-day forum is a pragmatic way for users of commercial dispute resolution to exchange best practices and know-how and to discuss techniques for effective conflict management, avoidance and early dispute resolution.

“As a world leader in administered mediation, the ICC International Centre for ADR has lent its expertise to the conference that will focus on ways to negotiating the settlement you need – whether it be in mediation or in any other form of negotiation or dispute resolution proceeding,” said Hannah Tümpel, Senior Counsel of the ICC Centre for ADR and a conference moderator. Ms Tümpel joins an international line up of speakers who include David Parker, Group Executive Director of Chinachem Group (Hong Kong), Michael McIlwrath, Associate General Counsel – Litigation, GE Oil & Gas (Italy) and Abhijit Mukhopadhyay, President (Legal), Hinduja Group London (India).

Speakers at previous editions of this event have highlighted the need for in-house counsel to lead the settlement negotiations. One such speaker, Alexander Steinbrecher, Legal Counsel, Bombardier Transportation from Germany said: “Managing business disputes must not be the sole domain of external lawyers. Business organizations need to re-claim control. This is vital to ensure that business-to-business disputes are managed efficiently and effectively in a business-wise manner. In-house counsel are sitting in the driver’s seat.”

Ms Tümpel said:  “In-house counsel will not want to miss this training opportunity that will help them define their own interests and prepare realistic options. And external counsel and dispute resolution specialists will be keen to attend to discover the wants and needs of  corporate users today.”

The 5th International Mediation Conference will take place at ICC Global Headquarters in Central Paris. The Conference is supported by the Association of Corporate Counsel Europe (ACCE), Corporate Counsel International Arbitration Group (CCIAG), European Company Lawyers Association (ECLA) and the Round Table Mediation and Conflict Management of the German (RTMKM).
