ICC Ghana, one of the world business organization’s 89 national committees located worldwide, was re-launched today at the 2014 Ghana Economic Forum.

The relaunch, in one of Africa’s fastest growing economies, is set to strengthen the presence of ICC in Africa and further expand ICC’s extensive global network that currently comprises 6.5 million enterprises in over 130 countries.

ICC Secretary General Jean-Guy Carrier is in Ghana this week to mark the occasion and will hold private meetings with Mr Mahama as well as with Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry Haruna Iddrisu and Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood.

“The re-launch of ICC Ghana is in line with ICC global objectives to expand international reach and outlook and will bring the benefits of ICC membership, products and services to more businesses in the region,” Mr Carrier said.

ICC national committees and groups form the global network that makes ICC unique among business organizations. They work with ICC members in their respective regions to voice the interests of business to national governments and provide input to ICC’s policy work.

ICC’s strengthened presence in Ghana will help to bring international business concerns to the attention of Ghana’s government. ICC Ghana will be led by its Chairman Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda with daily operations overseen by Secretary General Emmanuel Doni-Kwame, who is also Managing Director of the World Trade Centre in Accra.

Joining Mr Carrier in Ghana to promote the ICC Ghana re-launch are ICC Banking Commission Policy Manager David Bischof and Tunde Ogunseitan, Counsel at the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce.

“The new structure will allow a new generation of dynamic lawyers in Ghana to benefit from and participate in the work of the Court and help to step up its activity in Africa.”

Earlier in 2014, the ICC Banking Commission and the international factoring organization FCI hosted an event in Ghana to provide banks and financial institutions in the country with an insight into the workings and key elements of factoring, a type of financial transaction. The event featured an opening address by Mr Doni-Kwame and was attended by more than 60 high-level executives from banks, factors and other institutions interested in the development of factoring in Africa.
